Some in-process pictures of the construction of the elements for “The DNA of Root Words” installation at NeoRio 2018.
NeoRio 2018
NeoRio is an annual outdoor, contemporary art event with changing themes. It is a call to the public to come and explore the results of artists, scholars, local experts, and youth investigating and creating new works on natural world themes. The event takes place outdoors at Wild Rivers, in the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. Created as a platform for innovative artists, NeoRio provides opportunities for cross-pollination between artists, scholars in other fields, conservationists, and members of the public interested in protecting and celebrating our wild lands and waters. Hosted by the Bureau of Land Management’s Taos Field Office, NeoRio is organized by LEAP (Land, Experience and Art of Place), and takes place with the efforts of many volunteers.
The theme is roots for 2018.
Project description
Roots, root words, and human-created sounds that have persisted across culture and time fascinate me. The 15 most archaic and stable words across world languages have been distilled, according to one Soviet researcher, to these word-concepts: I/me; two/pair; thou/thee/you; who/what; tongue; name; eye; heart; tooth; no/ not; fingernail/toenail; louse; tear (as in weeping); water, and dead. My project is an interactive expressive typography installation, using natural materials, printed materials, and sound.
Questa Studio Arts Tour 2018
The August 18-19, 2018 weekend will feature over 30 Questa area artists, at several studios and “hubs” around town. I’ll be at the La Sala hub, 2331 Hwy 522, on the right, as you first drive down the big hill into Questa, if you’re coming from Taos.
Here are a few artworks that will be there for sure.
