Ravel Animé

A multimedia multi-sensory performance celebrating the life and music of French composer Maurice Ravel held March 1, 2002 at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville Tennessee. I met pianist Heidi Lowy on a trip she was making through Knoxville promoting her complete recordings of Mozart sonatas. She became the pianist for this stream-of-consciousness presentation of many of Ravel's most gorgeous piano works. Circle Modern Dance, led by Mark Lamb, agreed to become the dance component, Laura Buenning and others were readers of Symbolist poetry in both French and English, and artist Randy Arnold and I provided static visuals. The two essential spiritual elements of fire and water were represented, as well as scent and other visuals and auditorials.
